Completely agree with you, Adrienne! When automation first came on the scene I was vehemently against it, but I wasn’t working in social yet full-time, so I didn’t realize how it could be useful. I saw a LOT of accounts go from being engaging to just popping in whenever and taking forever to respond. Finally my business reached a point where I couldn’t manually do everything anymore and needed help aggregating all the content. But that was just so I could focus on building interaction and engaging. All this automation today is sad to me, and I hope that people become more aware it’s preventing them from truly experiencing the awesomeness of Twitter. I try to make Twitter about direct, realtime connections, and acknowledgement… when certain users have a continual stream of soulless automated posts they become so easy to ignore!!
